BRIEF HISTORY:

BCCL has a cherished as it came into being with relentless and untiring Endeavour’s of Late Atish Chandra Sinha, the doyen of Kandi Raj Family, on 5th October, 2002. The college is affiliated to Kalyani University and approved by the Bar Council of India. Shri Atish Chandra Sinha accomplished this Herculean task of establishing a law college with the sheer desire to impart legal education and create social engineers as he himself couldn’t continue his legal education, being admitted, due to some reasons. Hence he wanted to materialize it by establishing a Law College which would in turn create lots of legal minds. This was need of the hour too, as there was no any law college in the District of Murshidabad. Then the college was named after and in loving memory of his father, Late Bimal Chandra Sinha.

Presently the college is run under the kind patronage of his son, Prof. /Dr. Aninda Sinha, who is a Professor at Indian Institute of Sciences, Bangalore. During initial stages the college was made operational in Raja Birendra Chandra College, but later on in the year 2006, it was shifted to the present location. Earlier the course offered was LL.B. 5 years, but later on from 2006 it successfully introduced the B.A.LL.B.(H) – 5 years integrated course as the guidelines & direction from the Bar Council of India. The college has nurtured many a great legal minds and carved a niche for itself in the legal area and will continue the same.

ABOUT US:

Bimal Chandra College of Law is located in Kandi, one of the Sub-Divisional Town of District Murshidabad, West Bengal. The college is housed amid serene and natural beauty of Madhunia village, near Dohalia By-Pass and spread over an area of five bigha of land. It comprises of a main building and a canteen. The main building is a two storied building consisting of five well furnished Lecture Theaters, one Moot Court Room, Administrative Block, Staff Room, Computer Lab, Indoor Games Room and Principals Office. The college also has a well equipped, well managed and well furnished library variety of relevant study materials and run by a professional librarian and two supporting staffs.

The college regularly organizes moot court competition since its inception, which is a sine quo non of a Law College, to train students for their future Endeavour’s. The meritorious students out of them are sent to participate in Inter-College moot court competitions. We also propose to start legal aid clinics & camps from the session 2012-13 onwards. There is a big, green and lashy field in front of the college for recreational and sports activities which are part & parcel of academic pursuits.

ABOUT KANDI:

Kandi is a municipal town in Murshidabad District in the state of West Bengal. As of 2001 Census, Kandi had a population of 50,345 and has an average literacy rate of 65% heghter than the national average of 59.5%. Educational/Institution/establishments in this place include Raj College, Raja Birendra Chandra College, Kandi Raj High School and Kandi M.C. Girls School. There are many educational libraries, sporting clubs in neghbouring villages also. Berhampore city, the head quarter of the district is 25 K.M. away and well connected with rail and bus route.

The nearest railway station is Khagraghat, Berhampore and nearest National Highway is N.H. – 34. The climate condition quite pleasant, being situated at the heartland of vast Mid-Bengal farming expanse known as ‘Rarh’ and has been able to keep the idyllic environs and characteristics social amity. It calmness and quietness is eminently suitable for academic & scholastic pursuits.
